Spotlight Wednesday: Accept the Challenge and WIN BOOKS!

We're pretty sure you're going to dig Spotlight Wednesdays.

Every Wednesday we'll be shining the spotlight on a contemporary YA title (or two) that we're excited about, or that's been out for awhile and could use a little love! We're kind of tired of traditional author interviews, so we're going to mix it up as much as possible. We'll be featuring book trailers, author videos, and other fun things to entertain you but even more importantly, to get you to pick up the featured book(s)!

Today, however, we're shining the spotlight on us, The Contemps, and an AMAZING contest we have for you!

You have the chance to win every one of our 21 books as they are released throughout the year. Yes, that's right, 21 books! That's practically an entire bookshelf. So awesome! The really cool thing is as the books are released, you'll get them in the mail, so you'll have books coming to you spread throughout the year. It's like a book-of-the-month club, only better, because you don't have to pay for any of the books!

We're calling it the Contemps Challenge, and if YOU accept the challenge, you promise to read at least 18 of the 21 upcoming Contemps books between now and August 15, 2011. One lucky challenger will win the grand prize.

To enter:
  • Participants must be at least 13 years old.
  • Send an e-mail by November 15, 2010 with I ACCEPT THE CONTEMPS CHALLENGE in the subject line to: contempscontests(at)gmail(dot)com
  • Start reading! Visit our Books page for the complete book list or add books to your "to read" list from our Goodreads page (books that release later in 2011 may not be available on Goodreads yet).
We hope a whole bunch of you accept the challenge! It's going to be such a great year of books.

If you'd like to help spread the word about our group and/or the challenge, you can also enter to win one of five special prize packs. See the Get Involved page for more information (under #4 bloggers) on how to spread the word and enter to win!

And now, I leave you with a fun video done by our very own Daisy Whitney, telling the world about the exciting new group of contemporary authors called The Contemps. Maybe you've heard of them?

Please let us know - would you like to see more of us in person, live and talking? Maybe discussing some fun or interesting topics? It's a great way to keep it real, don't ya think?

Happy reading,
Lisa

I am totally planning to do the challenge even though I'm not eligible to win. OBVIOUSLY.

Also? Daisy - BORN to be on camera. What a great vid!

Daisy, you are awesome! You look like a pro! Do you have a background in news or theater or live presenting or something? /goes off to check your bio.../

I have a question, though.
The post says, "The really cool thing is as the books are released, you'll get them in the mail, so you'll have books coming to you spread throughout the year. It's like a book-of-the-month club, only better, because you don't have to pay for any of the books!"

If we join the challenge, do we get sent these books as they come out? Which means that we read them and review them?
Or do we buy the books ourselves and review them?

Hi Rabbit,

To enter the contest, you simply agree to read 18 of the 21 books. The winner will be selected after the deadline to enter (November 15th) and then that person will be mailed all 21 books, so he/she won't have to buy them.

The other people who all accepted the challenge will hopefully see it through and buy some, get some from the library, etc. Of course any one who wants to review them is welcome to, but it's not a requirement!

Hope that helps!
Lisa

Rabbithigh, that's a great question!

People entering the challenge are committing to read 18 of the 21 books, and you can buy them, borrow from the library, or borrow from friend to get your hands on the books!

The winner, however, will win the complete set. The contest closes to new entries on Nov. 15, so we'll be picking a winner soon after. That way, participants will know way in advance if they have to buy/borrow the books they want to read, or if they'll just be arriving in the mail.

Let us know if this doesn't answer your question!

There are two authors so far who have written teen books that have rocked my world basically. They are Sarah Dessen and Elizabeth Scott. Sarah Dessen's 'The Truth About Forever' and 'Just Listen' were both amazing and really changed my life. So far I have read 'The Unwritten Rule' and 'Perfect You' by Elizabeth Scott and both were amazing books. I could really relate to both authors characters and recognize parts of me in them.

Love the challenge! I'd so love to take part, but living in the UK, it's quite hard to get hold of new US releases - the libraries here are so badly stocked, and unfortunately money is a little tight. But it's such a cool idea! I hope a lot of people sign up for it! :)

Would be awesome to see more videos of authors! I think it would be easier to "get to know" authors better via video than by text; I think more of their personality would come through.
