Guest Post: Hannah Moskowitz Wants to Hold Your Hand!

Hey, Contemps! We've got another great guest post for you today by way of author Hannah Moskowitz.
Hannah's newest novel, Invincible Summer, releases from Simon Pulse this month - how amazing is that cover? Hot!

Here's Hannah on writing contemp:

I always say that there are two types of readers. The first reads to
escape. This reader wants to visit worlds that he couldn't get to on
his own. He wants to be swept away and shocked and to forget real life
while he dives into plot twists and worldbuilding. He wants to read
characters he would love to meet in real life. He wants to be
completely outside of himself for a while. It's an amazing way to
read. I wish I could do it.

The second reads to have his hand held. He wants little glances and
words that he sees everyday. He wants the people he knows and doesn't
understand. He wants to read sentences that make him think, “I thought
I was the only one who felt that way, and there it is put into words.”

I am the second type entirely. It's much more selfish, I think. I read
to see myself. But it's the only way I know the words for what I'm
feeling.

It's the only way I can read. And, even though I'm now branching into
fantasy, it's the only way I can write, too. I write fantasy like I
write contemporary—in little ugly glances and little strange words.

So I'm selfish, but at least I'll hold your hand.

Thanks, Hannah! So, folks - which type of reader are you?

So well said, Hannah. I think you're right.

I think it's great we have all different kinds of books for the particular mood we're in. I love contemporary fiction, but sometimes I do love to be swept up and away.

Thanks for the breakdown, Hannah. It's clear-cut and easy to understand. I'm definitely the second type, too, in both reading and writing. I look forward to reading your work!!

Love the hand-holding analogy. Me completely.

Great post, Hannah! You are so talented and I love reading your books. I think, though, I'm a bit of both. In some ways, I love reading to escape in the sense that when I read, everything else can come tumbling down and I'd still be happy because I'm captivated by a book. BUT I also read to get a glimpse into someone, to see whether they feel as I do, to connect and hold hands.
