Hot Topic Tuesday: To Ugg or Not To Ugg

What do you say?

Are you an Ugg lover or an Ugg hater?

I've never owned a pair, for a couple of reasons. I don't live in a place where it gets really cold. But the other thing is that I pretty much think they're the ugliest shoe I've ever seen. Don't hate me Ugg lovers - I'm fine with you wearing them, I'm just not sure I want to.

Maybe I should be glad girls and women are throwing their painful high heels aside and going for comfort and warmth. But the combinations people come up with sometimes makes me wonder if the Uggs bring on a fashion disease of some kind where all common sense flies out the window. I mean, people, what would Tim Gunn say if he saw you walking around in a sundress, a denim jacket, and Uggs? I've seen some girls even wear them with shorts. Why, people, why? I don't understand.

But hey, if you are one who wears her Uggs 24/7 no matter the time or the season, enlighten me. I'd love to hear what you have to say, because in my mind, once the sun starts to shine, Uggs should go to the back of the closet because your cute little toes are ready to be seen.

Yes, toes around the world are crying out for fair and equal justice - they will not be silenced forever! I speak for all of the toes out there who say, flip-flops are the way to go!! And think of all the books you could buy with that extra cash you save, because from what I hear, Uggs are not cheap.

I love mine. But they're faux Uggs... Old Navy brand. They are the warmest shoe ever. I live in FLA so I don't get much call for them, but when it IS cold, those boots and a hat are all I need to really keep me warm.

Oh I have a pair, but I only wear them when there is too much snow and I don't want it in my shoes, plus I wear pants that cover them up. But I'm a Vans girl. I will wear my Vans on any other day.

I love my UGGs, I got my first pair about 4 years ago, but my husband, yes my husband, has worn them ever since I met him (and before). He claims they originated as surfer shoes and would come out from surfing and put them on. I didn't think this was true until I saw a video of him from 20 years ago wearing his surf shorts and his UGGS. He still wears a pair of them today which is funny now that he lives in the mountains of Virginia (far, far away from San Diego). His friends make fun of him, but he always says, "I don't care, I've worn these since I was 17 and I'm not gonna stop now." He's actually on his second pair because the dog destroyed his first pair.

As for me, I only wear them with jeans in the fall and winter.

Love that this is a hot topic! I own an embarrassing number of Uggs, mainly because when I'm writing, comfort is key. My favorite pair are like a cozy cardigan for my feet.

I'm going to be straight here: I LOVE my Uggs. Mine, however, aren't really Uggs, because they are made by L.L. Bean. They are real shearling. As soon as I got them I gave them two coats of waterproofing spray. I live in Minnesota and they keep me feet incredibly warm and dry in the ridiculously snowy and icy winter.

However, I don't start wearing Uggs until there is snow on the ground. And you can bet that as soon as the snow melts and I don't risk getting my feet soaked I will be prancing around in ballet flats and flip flops again.

Yeah... I'm a hater. I have a pair that I wear as slippers but that's where it ends for me. I think they can look cute though on other people. I'm a heels girl through and through though so I don't wear flats too often.

Our weather's kind of moderate though so I think if I lived somewhere colder I'd definitely wear them more.x

I'm indifferent toward them. I've definitely been tempted to get some--I live in Chicago and it gets very cold here, but I haven't dropped the cash on any. Right now, my cold-weather boots are a pair of black Baretraps.

I used to live in Arizona and found it hilarious when U of A girls would wear super short skirts and tiny tank tops and pair that outfit with Uggs. But as someone who now lives in the Northeast, Uggs (or faux Uggs) are a definite must-have for those freezing cold days where my feet would get frostbite in anything else.

I hate them but they're too comfortable to pass up

I love all of the differing opinions. Thanks for sharing!! Someday I may have to try a pair on, and see what my little toes think. :)

I'm one of those San Diego girls who wore her Uggs everywhere 20 (gulp!) years ago before the rest of the country caught on. Still have the pair that saw me through high school -- I adore them.

You guys should all be ashamed of yourselfs for wearing Uggs like it's no biggie! The violence of the wool industry continues long after the animals are restrained, shaved, and sometimes mulesed. After the animals are used up or their wool production wanes (much like cows used in the dairy industry or chickens who are forced to lay eggs), the system of "live export" begins. Tens of thousands of sheep are crammed into huge, open-deck ships, packed together so tightly that many are often unable to reach food and water and starve to death before they make it to the Middle East—where they're sent for slaughter.
STOP supporting Ugg boots and PLEGDE to NEVER wear them EVER again here!
