Spotlight Tuesday: PEARL by Jo Knowles

We have two great releases this week! Lucky for us and lucky for YOU! Today we're spotlighting Pearl by Jo Knowles. Jo is also the author of Lessons of a Dead Girl and Jumping Off Swings.

From Goodreads: "Bean (née Pearl) and Henry, misfits and best friends, have the strangest mothers in town. Henry’s mom Sally never leaves the house. Bean’s mom Lexie, if she is home, is likely nursing a hangover or venting to her friend Claire about Bean’s beloved grandfather Gus, the third member of their sunny household.

Gus’s death unleashes a host of family secrets that brings them all together. And they threaten to change everything—including Bean’s relationship with Henry, her first friend, and who also might turn out to be her first love."

I haven't had a chance to read the book yet, but I can't wait. A 7th grade English teacher did a wonderful review in which she says: "I fell in love with Bean almost right away. She's a fifteen year old girl who has some real struggles with her family. She lives with her mom, who works in as a waitress and is often out 'till the wee hours, and her grandfather, a stern man who keeps to himself and is often fighting with Lexie. Bean can't understand why Gus and Lexie can't get along, and when the tension in the house gets too bad, Bean escapes to her best friend Henry's house."

Check out the great trailer and then pick up Pearl for what looks to be another amazing read by the talented Jo Knowles!

This sounds good! To me, family stories are particularly interesting. I like how the cover (which, admittedly, reminds me of MATCHED) looks like a simple pearl until you magnify it and see two faces.

I'm thinking this book is probably going to be an upcoming WoW for me, because I've been hearing some really good things about this and I cannot wait to read it. :)
